River Edge Volunteer Ambulance Service

Welcome to the River Edge Volunteer Ambulance Service (REVAS), where we have been proudly providing top-quality emergency medical care to our community for over 69 years. We are a fully volunteer squad, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and our services are always free of charge.

Since our inception in 1949, we have been dedicated to serving the 9,000 residents of the borough with a team of 43 dedicated volunteers. However, like many other volunteer ambulance corps around the country, we have struggled to attract new volunteers to replace those who retire. Despite our efforts to promote volunteerism and reach out to the River Edge community, we eventually found it difficult to maintain our service during daytime hours.

In August 2021, we signed a contract with Holy Name hospital to serve as the designated EMS provider for the borough from 7am to 7pm. Under this contract, REVAS, not the patient, is responsible for the copay portion of the ambulance bill, ensuring that our services continue to be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to residents, no matter what time they call 911. We are proud to continue serving our community and providing the highest level of care.

We hope this is a temporary situation aggravated by COVID-19 pandemic and we will return to 24x7 operation eventually. But that will only be possible if you, town residents, join the team of our dedicated volunteers!
