Description
The River Edge Fire Department is a fully volunteer organization that has been serving the community since 1900. It operates two firehouses, with Company 1 located at Kinderkamack Road and Tenney Avenue and Company 2 at Ackerson Street. The department is staffed by approximately 60 active members, along with auxiliary members and a cadet program aimed at fostering the next generation of firefighters.
The department is well-equipped with three fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue vehicle, and a special operations truck, responding to an average of 250-300 emergency calls per year. The leadership team includes Chief Robert Schlossberg, Assistant Chief Gregg Cariddi, and Deputy Chief Eric Schultz, with a dedicated group of officers for each company.
The River Edge Fire Department also works on fire prevention initiatives and provides safety education to the community. They regularly host public events and fundraisers to maintain their operations and engage with residents.
