River Edge Borough Hall located in the heart of town hosts many of the departments for the town. These include the clerk, tax office, tax assessor, building department, finance, health department, land use, recreation, as well as the police department and council chambers.
The governing body is run by the mayor and council consisting of 6 council members and the mayor. Meetings are held per the borough calendar in the council chambers. Meetings are recorded and available for viewing on the borough YouTube channel.
The building department is responsible for permits and inspections of buildings within the borough. It is also where you apply for a certificate of occupancy before the sale of any property.
The borough clerk is responsible for certain permits like garage sales and raffles as well as maintaining borough records.
Another big responsibility of the clerk are elections. The clerk will handle voter registrations as well as the administration of elections.
The borough health department has a number of responsibilities and coordinates with the Bergen County Department of Health to maintain the general health of our community.
The health department issues dog licenses, arranges flu vaccinations, marriage licenses, mosquito control, animal control, mental health, and other duties.

The tax department is charged with the collection of property taxes for properties in River Edge. Taxes are collected on a quarterly basis and can be dropped off at the office in borough hall or in their drop box after hours.
The tax assessor is responsible for assessing the value of every property in the borough. The values are then used to determine the amount of taxes each property owes. The borough will conduct borough wide assessments when needs to adjust values with current conditions
