What's the story of River Edge?
River Edge, NJ is a small community located in Bergen County in North East New Jersey. With good schools, convenient transportation options, and many attractive amenities River Edge is a favorite destination in the area. With just under 11,000 residents in 4,165 residences River Edge offers something for everyone from shopping, restaurants, free public library, athletic programs for kids and adults, and so much more.
The borough was founded in 1693 but did not take on the name River Edge until 1930 during a period in Bergen County history where numerous towns were being incorporated. The borough is home to the Campbell Christie House, Steuben House, and Demarest House located at the New Bridge Landing Historic Site.

River Edge is also home to numerous parks providing walking paths, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball.softball fields, street hockey rink, playgrounds, and other open spaces. The River Edge Swim Club offers a variety of memberships to residents and is open from memorial Day to Labor Day each year. The River Edge Library is free to residents and is part of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) and offers programs for all ages throughout the year.

New Bridge Landing played a huge part in keeping our battle for independence alive. As General Washington and his troops retreated from the British forces they were able to encamp and flee to safety across “the bridge that saved America” at New Bridge.
