Car Transportation
River Edge is conveniently located near many major interstate highways (Route 80, Garden State Parkway, New Jersey Turnpike, Route 287) making it very convenient to travel throughout the area as well as bordering states. As many residents commute into Manhattan daily the likely routes would be as follows depending on your end destination.
River Edge to George Washington Bridge: NJ Route 4 connects River Edge directly with the George Washington Bridge and is approximately 9 miles and about 20 minutes drive in ideal conditions. The George Washington Bridge connects Fort Lee, NJ and Manhattan at 178th St with easy connection to the Henry Hudson Parkway, US 87, Cross Bronx Expressway, and may other NY arteries.
River Edge to Lincoln Tunnel: For commuters working in lower Manhattan the Lincoln Tunnel may be a better option. Basic directions are Route 4 West to Route 17 South to US 80 East to the NJ Turnpike to NJ 495. 495 connects to the Lincoln Tunnel and enters Manhattan at 39th St.
Mass Transit
We also have the opportunity to use mass transit in the form of buses and trains that make stops in the borough. River Edge is home to 2 train stations serviced by the NJ Transit system, River Edge Station and New Bridge Landing.
Train
River Edge Station
River Edge Station is part of the NJ Transit system under the Pascack Valley Line. The line runs to the Hoboken Terminal with connections at Secaucus. At Hoboken you can connect to NY Waterways, PATH service, and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. The station is frequented daily by locals who travel into Manhattan and other destinations for work. Parking at the River Edge Station is limited to River Edge residents and are allocated by a lottery system.

New Bridge Landing Station







New Bridge Station is also part of the NJ Transit system under the Pascack Valley Line and is located on the River Edge/Hackensack border.. The line runs to the Hoboken Terminal with connections at Secaucus. At Hoboken you can connect to NY Waterways, PATH service, and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. At Secuacus Station you can also connect to lines running into Manhattan and other stations across the North East. New Bridge Station has a commuter parking lot available by permit or by daily use. Buses
Bus transportation is also a vital element of commuter accessibility to New York City. NJ Transit operates buses throughout the area with stops along Kinderkamack Rd. NJ Transit Bus 165 connects Westwood and New York City with stops in River Edge. The 165 Bus schedule is subject to change. Buses run regularly on weekdays and take about an hour depending on traffic to reach the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.
Air Travel
The River Edge area is services by 3 major international airports Newark Liberty International, John F Kennedy Airport, and Laguardia International Airport with flights to every destination possible.
